TAI SHAN
            Peking [Bei Jing]
            circa 1890-1935

The maker’s mark also states the silver is “zu wen” [fine silver] - normally used for silver over .95 quality. Tai
Shan was also a maker of silver sycee [ingots]

It is an incorrect assumption to link this mark with that of Taikut. Tai Shan is a Peking-based retail silversmith,
whereas Taikut is Canton-based and known to have collaborated with Wang Hing; it is a common error of
auction houses to identify Tai Shan silver as “TAI” or linking it automatically to “TAIKUT” because the silver
mark of Tai Shan often states “TAI” in English and Tai Shan Beijing in in Chinese characters.

It is believed, however, there is a connection between Tai Shan and Tai Hua, a Shanghai-based retail silversmith.
The style of both are similar and there is a shared similarity in their silver marks. This is now being researched
            further
