WAH SHING [aka WO SHING] [See also main entry for WO SHING]

            circa 1840-1925

It has generally been agreed that Wah Shing is a derivative name used by Wo Shing, or more accurately used by
one of the artisan silversmiths who regularly worked with Wo Shing; derivative inasmuch as an alternative
transliteration of Chinese names has a subjective degree of interpretation on the part of the Chinese-speaking
artisan silversmiths actually stamping the mark. Wo Shing marks are prone to several derivations where even
the name “Shanghai” appears as “Shinghai” with regularity.

The featured example of the Wah Shing mark shows Ning Jiao Ji was the artisan maker; a respected silversmith
also making silver items for Luen Wo on a regular basis. Ning Jiao Ji was considered one of the top master
silversmiths in Shanghai at this time.
