The work of WE WE WC is par excellence; it can rival the best of English, European and American silversmiths
of the “Georgian” era. There is no such thing as a poor piece of WE WE WC silver.
Dated circa 1835, this quite extraordinary rectangular form fruit basket [above] has finely pierced sides that
have then been applied with a second layer of finely reticulated wine leaves delicately engraved with trailing
fruiting vine tendrils. The overall effect is almost lace-like. The whole rests upon a short sloping collet foot. The
basket carries two intertwined monograms under a coronet.
A neo-classical circa 1825 jug of squat fluted form with
cylindrical neck and ribbed handle is typical of the fine
silver wares WE WE WC produced for the English and
American markets.
A circa 1825 neo-classical teapot [below] of squat form
with fluted sides and gadrooned border of acanthus
leaves and flowers, leaf capped handle and ivory
insulators. Note the folly of the pseudo-monarch’s
head, leopard’s head and lion rampant in the mark.
