WANG XING YU
Shanghai
circa 1880-1930
A Shanghai-based artisan silversmith specialising in enamelwork on silver. We know that Wang Xing Yu
collaborated with the retail silversmith Wing Fat and one can reasonably assume he worked with others.
A circa 1895-1900 tea pot with each segment is skilfully divided by scroll-top swags at either side whole joining
the adjacent segment’s swag. The enamel work is quite different to the restrained style of the more traditional
Beijing enamel master - this tea pot is almost ‘baroque’ in it’s exuberant style. The enamel technique is also
quite different from either cloisonné or champlevé enamel one is used to seeing on Chinese silver.
