Wing Chun items often
h a d a n e x t r o v e r t
theatricality to them; this
circa 1890 tazza is a
wonderful example of a
mix of high Victorian
style and traditional
Chinese decorative
motifs - what I like to call
‘Sino Victoriana’. It
shows a very creative
mind at work as well as
that sense of humour so
many Chinese
silversmiths expressed
through their work.
The same can be said for
the circa 1890 tea and
coffee service [below];
while dragons are
certainly not unusual in
Chinese Export Silver
items, these dragons are
exquisitely executed, in
particular their fanned
tails echoing their
manes and even the
dragon claw feet on each
piece.
Chinese Export Silver basting or stuffing spoons are particularly rare…….
