Wu Hua, Peking has no connection with Wu Hua, Tientsin
A manufacturing and a retail
silversmith of extraordinary
quality and ability. Wu Hua was
able to create silver very much in
the Western style.
A late 19th century raised border
piecrust silver salver on four
bracket feet with engraved crest -
45.5cm diameter.
It is no mean feat for a Chinese
silversmith to produce silver of
this quality and style. It is, after
all, almost 100 years after the
early Chinese Export Silver period
w h i c h p r o d u c e d a l m o s t
exclusively faithful copies of neo-
classical “Georgian” silver.
The Wu Hua water ewer [follwing
i l l u s t r a t i o n ] i s e q u a l l y
extraordinary as an example of
Chinese silver. There are few
lidded ewers in the neo-classical
style in the entire 155 years
