A RECTANGULAR DUAN INK STONE
18TH-19TH CENTURY
The stone is of dark purplish-brown color, and carved with tall
bamboo, pine and prunus trees (the ‘Three Friends of Winter’),
which are interrupted in the center by the circular grinding surface.

The K’ung Hsiang-Hsi (Kong Xiangxi, 1881- 1967) Collection,
New York, and thence by descent within the family.

A CARVED DUAN INK STONE
19TH CENTURY
Of dark purplish-brown color, the D-shaped inkstone is carved on
the top with swirling and crashing waves around the irregularly-
shaped well and grinding surface.
