A GILT-BRONZE FIGURE OF
SEATED BHAISAJYAGURU
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The figure is crisply cast, one hand in varada mudra,
the other held across the lower body above legs
crossed in vajrasana, seated on a triangular double
lotus base, the hair arranged in small whorls picked
out in blue pigment, above a rounded face with
eyes downcast, lips slightly indented on each side
to provide a benevolent expression, wearing a robe
draped loosely over the shoulders exposing the
bare torso, the garment edges finely chased with a
floral pattern.
