A CARVED BROWN LACQUER BOX AND
COVER
16th/17th century
The cover finely carved with a central scene
depicting an official, holding a hu tablet, kneeling on
a square mat, backed by an attendant, both facing a
table laid with archaistic vessels beneath a pine tree
within a fences garden, reserved on a red diaper
ground, the exterior with leafy peony motifs.

Of circular form, finely carved in high relief with
a scholar flanked by a deer and an attendant
amid pine trees and pavilions, the other side with
branches of blooming camellias, all on geometric
pattern ground.
