A LARGE INCISED AND INLAID-LACQUER ‘DRAGON’ LOBED
BOX AND COVER A TIANQI LACQUER RECTANGULAR TRAY

The cover intricately incised through the lacquer and painted in a Decorated in the centre with a large barbed panel depicting a
darker wash with a central front-facing five-clawed dragon enclosing parakeet descending toward a branch of blossoming peonies issuing
the flaming pearl amidst cloud scrolls, encircled by the Eight Buddhist from rocks, the sides with further panels depicting a phoenix and floral
Emblems borne on leafy scrolling foliage, all surrounded by sixteen scrolls, all on a leiwen ground, the exterior with racing dragons and
lobes with five-clawed writhing dragons, alternating with lotus flower vaporous clouds, all finely incised and coloured in varying shades of
heads at the rim, the box with mountain peaks emerging from foaming red and burnt umber transmuting to black and with gold filling within
waves in each lobe, all raised on a key-fret incised footring, the interior the incisions, fitted box.
