A CARVED SHOUSHAN SEAL
QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)
Of rectangular section with an irregular upper corner, the seal is well carved in low relief with a leafy,
fowering branch that grows from a rocky outcrop below vapor-like clouds. A four-character inscription
Junsheng zhen wan (treasured plaything of Junsheng) is carved on one side, and the face of the seal is
carved in raised characters, fang fei fei xi xi yu (the fragrance [of fowers] comes towards me).

The phrase carved on the face of the seal was taken from Shaosiming (The Lesser Master of Fate),
a poem by the late Warring States period poet Qu Yuan (circa 340-278 BC).
