A BLUE AND WHITE PEAR-SHAPED VASE
LATE MING DYNASTY,
LATE 16TH-17TH CENTURY
One side is decorated with a pheasant standing
on a rock amidst fowering and budding peonies,
and the reverse with the mate alighting on a rock
above crab apple growing amidst further rocks, all
between petal borders below and above and below
a pair of blue animal mask handles and further
crabapple branches on the fared mouth.

A BLUE AND WHITE SLEEVE VASE
CHONGZHEN PERIOD, CIRCA 1640
The sides are decorated in rich tones of cobalt
blue with a continuous scene of a warrior oficial
accompanied by soldiers holding halberds and
futtering banners greeting a kneeling young man
carrying a fag, all in an outdoor setting with the
top of a crenellated wall seen above clouds, the
scene ending in mist-enshrouded rock formations
on the reverse, and all below pendent petal lappets
at the rim.
