A LARGE PALE GREENISH-WHITE AND RUSSET JADE LINGZHI-FORM VESSEL
18TH-19TH CENTURY
The vessel is carved as a large, hollow lingzhi borne on a gnarled, leafy stem bearing
smaller fungus heads around the sides, one below the rim on one side concave and others
supporting three of the nine bats shown in fight around the sides and rim, one bat with a
branch bearing two peaches in its mouth, three holding fower stems. The semi-translucent
stone has veins of russet color throughout.

Lingzhi fungus, bats and peaches are all symbols of longevity, and when combined may
represent the wish, “May your heart be flled with intelligence when blessings arrive”
(fuzhi xinling).
