AN EMBELLISHED AND INSCRIBED WHITE JADE
SNUFF BOTTLE
The bottle: 1780-1900, embellishment: Tsuda family, Kyoto, Japan,
20th century
The rounded rectangular bottle supported on an oval foot ring, one
side with an irregular contour to best retain the natural russet skin
in the white stone, each main side decorated with colored stones
and painted with an episodic scene depicting figures in an elaborate
garden or in an interior setting, with possibly later added inscription,
and one side bearing a signature Ye Zhongsan with one painted seal,
dated jisi corresponding to 1929.
