A CARVED BLACK JADE SNUFF BOTTLE
1750-1850
Well-hollowed, of rounded rectangular
form, with a gently waisted neck, flat lip,
rounded oval foot ring, carved in low relief
and coordinating the few pale celadon
color patches in the otherwise evenly hued
black stone with leafy double-gourds and
scrolling tendrils, the reverse inscribed
with four characters reading Zi sun wan
dai (ten thousand generations of sons and
grandsons).

A WHITE JADE ‘SHUANGXI’
SNUFF BOTTLE
1780-1880
Well-hollowed, the rectangular bottle with
cusped corners, standing on a conforming
foot ring, with a cylindrical neck and flat lip,
the narrower sides with raised mask-and-ring
handles, separating two recessed reserves,
each framing a double happiness character,
the stone of an even white tone with limited
milky inclusions.
