Verse 5                                                 The darkness deepens;
        Thou my rock, my guard, my tower,                       Lord, with me abide;
        Safely keep, while I sleep,
        Me, with all thy power. 5/6 When other helpers fail,
                                                                And comforts flee,
        Verse 6 Help of the helpless,
        So, whene'er in death I slumber, O abide with me. 1/5
        Let me rise with the wise,
        Counted in their number. 6/6 Verse 2
        HOME Swift to its close ebbs out
                                                                Life's little day;
        507 The day thou gavest Lord, is Earth's joys grow dim,

        ended,                                                  Its glories pass away;
        Verse 1
                                                                Change and decay
        The day thou gavest Lord, is ended,                     In all around I see;
        The darkness falls at thy behest; O Thou, who changest not,
        To thee our morning hymns ascended, Abide with me! 2/5
        Thy praise shall sanctify our rest. 1/5
                                                                Verse 3
        Verse 2 I need Thy presence
        We thank thee that thy church unsleeping,               Every passing hour;
        While earth rolls onward into light, What but Thy grace
        Through all the world her watch is keeping, Can foil the tempter's power?
        And rests not now by day or night. 2/5
                                                                Who, like Thyself,
        Verse 3 My guide and stay can be?
        As o'er each continent and island the dawn leads Through cloud and sunshine,
        on another day, the voice of prayer is never O abide with me. 3/5
        silent, nor dies the strain or praise away. 3/5
        Verse 4                                                 Verse 4
        The sun that bids us rest is waking I fear no foe,
        Our brethren 'neath the western sky, And hour           With Thee at hand to bless;
        by hour fresh lips are making thy wondrous Ills have no weight,
        doings heard on high. 4/5                               And tears no bitterness;

        Verse 5 Where is death's sting?
        So be it Lord; thy throne shall never, Like earth's Where, grave, thy victory?
        proud empires, pass away; thy kingdom stands, I triumph still,
        and grows for ever, till all thy creatures own thy If Thou abide with me. 4/5

        508 Abide with me                                       Before my closing eyes;
        Verse 1 Shine through the gloom,
        Abide with me;                                          And point me to the skies;
        Fast falls the eventide;
