        SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENCE FOR AN ACID VICTIM

        Project Lead: AFH-Dhaka.  Client: Farida and her Son
        Area: 300 Sq. foot   Cost: $1700
        Funding: Foreign private donor.
        Project Architect: Imrul Kayes
        Design team: Dhaka chapter team, Caitlin Harrison, Farida and her family.
        Construction: Self-made along with community people.

        This project was to support Caitlin Harrison a journalist from Australia visited
        Bangladesh and meet one of the acid victim survivors. Later she managed a
        private donor and contacted AFH-Dhaka to help design and build a house for
        Farida. We considered to follow a self-made strategy and involved Farida and her
        extended family members along with other community women in all aspect and
        phases. The design and construction process was responsive to the actual needs
        of the owner and her son. Beside that The local construction techniques were
        improved in terms of structural stability, Joint details and protection against rain
        and rising damp. Attempt was made to express solidarity and enabling her to
        eventually call this as her own ‘home’.
