Following last month’s report on the Clients for Life training course that the GMs, DGMs
and Sales Team have been attending, we are going to take a closer look at the different
behaviours from the DISC profile.
Each person displays each of the four different behaviours (Dominance, Influence,
Steadiness and Compliance), and the profile shows how a person prefers to give and
receive information, and how a person will behaviourally respond to different situations.
The DISC model identifies a person’s natural tendencies and gives them the knowledge
to consciously adapt as and when the situation requires. The natural style is how
people will automatically respond to pressure, and they deal with an individual’s gut
reaction to events, their unconscious behaviour, and a person’s natural reaction based
on their past experiences. The adapted style is a person’s ‘game face’, their conscious
behaviour, and how they react to the present circumstances around them.
“All people exhibit all four behavioural factors in varying degrees of intensity”
W.M. Marston
This month we will be looking at Dominance (D), and that deals with how a person
handles problems and challenges.
A person whose Dominance is on the High end of the scale could be: Ambitious,
adventurous, competitive, decisive, direct, pioneering, a problem solver, results
oriented, a self-starter
A person whose Dominance is on the Lower end of the scale could be: Accommodating,
careful, friendly, hesitant, inconspicuous, modest, peaceful, unchallenging
What could the ideal environment be for someone High in Dominance? Work with
challenge and opportunity, non-routine work, freedom to express ideas and
viewpoints, an environment that is innovative and revolutionary, freedom from
control and supervision, less focus on details
