P. 52
We are legally made ‘joint equal heirs with Jesus’ (Rom 8:17).
Thus, “As Jesus is, so are we in this world” (I John 4:17).
This is an amazing revelation when you come into it. And it can
absolve any fear of death, even if we may not really want the
physical experience of it.
Paul tells us very pointedly that Jesus came to:
(1) abolish death (speaking eternally, not earthly death),
(2) give us abundant life on earth, and
(3) give us eternal life in heaven,
and that he does this by means of us embracing his GOSPEL.
(II Tim 1:10).
If we don’t embrace the gospel, these things may remain hidden.
When we do embrace it, death becomes like a door between
two rooms – or two worlds. That’s how we are to view it. Or it
can be viewed as ‘Two Roads’ like Robert Frost’s famous poem.
Most people took the trampled road, but we are to take ‘The
Road Not Taken.’ Jesus talks about the narrow road that leads to
heaven, and very few take it. This may be where Frost got his
idea for his poem.
It’s not that the road Jesus talks about is hard or difficult. In fact,
he says his way is EASY, and ‘his burden is light.’ We are told by
John that his way is not grievous or burdensome.
It’s just that most people want to fly their own plane, and don’t
even want God to be the co-pilot, when he should be the pilot.
