Most of us don’t have a passionate love affair with life. We’re
too busy trying to structure, rearrange, and change people or
things. We are too reactive, and not responsive to each other.
As a lawyer, for 25 years, I was in the courtroom most days. I
began law practice at a time when the law was easy. I was a ‘GP’
lawyer. Law wasn’t complicated until about 1986. I built my prac-
tice singing in clubs at night and passing out business cards at the
breaks (I met lots of folks in need of an attorney!) I guess that
newspapers thought what I was doing was newsworthy. The Denver
Post and Rocky Mountain News wrote articles about me:
‘The Singing Attorney,’ and ‘The Court Jester.’
Wow! The publicity was great ! ! !
As a lawyer, I’ve tried everything I can to
get life to work on my terms. I’ve tried brow
beating people. I’ve fought with my wife
Eileen, and daughters Lisa and Shawn. I’ve
tried manipulation and intimidation. I’ve even
tried bargaining with God to get life to
conform to my expectations.
I’ve also represented many people
trying to do the exact same thing!
Life has become a lot easier since I began RESPONDING to it,
and not REACTING — trying to control life and initiate things.
Never forget:
