20.4 Turabian essay style (AIU requires use of this citation system)

• Turabian style typically asks students to use a standard font (such as Arial or Calibri, size 12).
• The whole paper should be double-spaced with smooth left margins and jagged right margins.
• In Turabian style, the titles of books, movies, long plays, TV shows, journals, newspapers, magazines, and
websites are Italicized.
• Short stories, poems, episodes of TV shows, and short plays are placed in “Quotation Marks” (This is for
in-text mentions; the rules are different for the reference list). Following these conventions makes it easy
for readers to recognize what you are referring to quickly and accurately (Turabian Style Guide).

Practice 20: Using Citations

Use the following quote in two sentences. The first time cite the quote using an internal
citation. For the second sentence, use a footnote and endnote. The citation for the book is given
after the quote.
