Plural Possessive - Regular Plural Nouns
To show possession for a regular plural noun (a plural noun that ends in s), add only an apostrophe (‘) after the
s.
• the three boys' hats (the hats of more than one boy - boys)
o The three boys' hats were sold at the market. The hats of the three boys were sold at the market.
• the twins’ room
• many companies’ employees

Plural Possessive - Irregular Plural Nouns
An irregular plural noun is a plural noun that does not end in s.
To make one possessive, add an apostrophe (‘) and an s.
• men’s clothing
• children’s books
• people’s preferences
Notice the difference: the man's ties (the ties of one man) *the men's ties (the ties of men - more than one
man)
1. The man's ties were sold at the market. The ties of one man were sold at the market.
2. The men's ties were sold at the market. The ties of several men were sold at the market.

1. I saw six mens ties at the store. [I saw the ties of six men at the store.]
2. The answer to the peoples problems is Jesus.
3. The principal made a list of all the childrens complaints.
