A Visit to Indian Institute of Horticulture Research (IIHR) Bengaluru

Summary:
The Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR) organized a National Horti-
culture Fair on the 7th of March at IIHR Hessarghatta, Bengaluru. This event
aimed to showcase various horticultural varieties, machinery, and innovative tech-
niques to enhance agricultural practices. Our visit, accompanied by students, pro-
vided valuable insights into the diverse range of horticultural products and ad-
vancements in the field.
Exploration Highlights: During our visit, we had the opportunity to explore numerous hybrid
varieties sourced from different nurseries. Notable varieties included those from Sri Anna-
poorneshwari Nursery & Farm and H Road, Nidige, Shimoga, such as: Red Sapota, Nagami Kum-
quat, Taiwan Pink, Seedless Guava, Seedless Lemon, Thai 7 Guava, Seedless Jack Vietnam, Black
Jamun
Knowledge Acquisition: In addition to exploring various horticultural varieties, we gained in-
sights into several important aspects of horticultural management:
Integrated Pest Management (IPM): IPM for Brinjal Shoot and Fruit Borer
Arka Tuta Light Cum Suction Trap-based IPM of Phthorimaea absolute in
Tomato Integrated Disease Management (IDM): IDM for Chrysanthemum
Cultivation Integrated Virus Disease Management in Ridge Gourd
Bee Flora Management: Importance of Bee Flora to Sustain Honeybees
Bio-pesticide Development: Enrichment of Neem Cake and Farmyard Manure (FYM) with Bio-
pesticides
Neem Seed Powder-Pellet Formulation for Cabbage & Cauliflower Insect Pest Man-
agement
