Team Sponsor
The Team Sponsors are the decision-makers within your company who can provide support for the CI Team. Typically, these are department managers or members of Senior Management.
Responsibilities of the Team Sponsor:
• Have the authority to make changes in the areas where a CI Team is active
and to provide required skills and resources
• Meet occasionally with the Team as an observer. The role is a passive one despite any feelings that you “know the answer” or “have experienced it before”. The Team Sponsor must ensure the team is empowered to recommend the solutions they feel will work best.
• Provide direction if there is some information lacking (e.g. budget restraints, critical customer concerns etc.).
• Develop and improve the systems that will allow the Team to function properly. This includes providing the necessary resources and breaking down communication barriers between individuals or departments.
• Ensure that the Team’s improvement suggestions are properly followed up on and implemented. This is required in situations where the Team is not in control to conduct the follow up or implementation themselves.
• Ensure alignment with company priorities and other teams.
• Team Sponsors are often held accountable for the success or failure of their teams, with measurable factors built into the annual performance appraisal system.
Team Advisor
