Page 30 - Gilbert & Me_Neat
P. 30
Tried to discuss the matter with Gilbert, but he’s really not interested. The Gecko doesn’t
understand either. Went back to my book.
Lunch was a salad. Not really much to say about that. Under normal circumstances, I rather liked
salads. When I was much, much younger, salads were the only time when I could count more
than five different items of food on my plate –there would be lettuce, of course, cheese, ham or
chicken or turkey or tuna, depending, tomatoes, pickles, radish, cucumber, celery, sometimes
apple and grapes, and boiled eggs, topped off with salad cream and Bramston pickle. Those were
glorious meals. But not today. Today it would a sad salad comprised of lettuce, of course,
cheese, tomatoes and ham and salad cream only. It was consumed quickly, without much
enthusiasm, and the dishes cleaned away.
Checked my cell for messages, but it
wouldn’t come on. My useless iphone
5s, which had been dying slowly over
the past few months, was dead. Well, I
hear it beeping when texts and emails
are received, but the screen was black.
Totally black. Well and truly deaded,
so I can’t tell what has been received.
So, now I’m completed isolated. Nobody
can contact me and I can’t contact nobody neither.
Gilbert and I watch TV for most of the rest of the day, until lights out around 9.30pm. That’s my,
our, first day of isolation. Pretty exciting stuff huh.
