Day Three

               6.30am:
I woke up today realizing it was Saturday. This might sound odd to you, but I’d already had two
days “off work”, so this being the beginning of another day off work, a third day in fact, was
disconcerting. Previous Saturday’s have been spent recovering from rugby activities – either
games where I’ve been refereeing or, more often, coaching. I coach two teams – one in
Belmopan, the Hummingbirds Youth Rugby team, and the second in Belize City – the Scorpions.
Due to the curfew, neither rugby club, like all the others and countless other sports activities
across Belize , were no longer allowed to train or participate in activities. What was I supposed
               to do?

Well, coffee might help. So, I did the usual stuff in the bathroom, then meandered into the
kitchen and made a cup of coffee. I had two, in fact, but things still looked the same. Gilbert was
in the exact same place as the evening before. I plodded around the house – not sure why, I just
did, then, I sat down on the couch and looked at the blank TV screen.

               Then it hit me.
Many years ago, I was in a similar situation of having no idea what to do. Well, that’s not really
true. It’s not that I didn’t know what to do, I didn’t have anything to do. That’s the point. I
started writing a second novel – a follow-up to my
first “The Bayman Operation”. This second one was
called “Consejo Shores” and its purpose was to take
Consejo readers on a continuing journey with the main
character, Jason Hutchins. In this second novel, Jason
is now married and has a small family. I’m not telling
Shores you anymore – you’ll have to purchase the book
(thank you very much) to find out what happens.

Anyway, I could pick up where I left off and continue
writing this book. It was about time. I mean, I had
                                                        started it nine years ago!

I find the manuscript on an old flash drive and begin a

Tony Gillings review of the previously written pages. There are a
few errors and I correct those. Then I start asking
myself questions, like, where’s the story going? What
do I want the characters to do next? What on earth
                                                        does that mean?
