Bunnies with floppy ears and twitching pink noses appear with baskets of glorious, tasty,
chocolate Easter eggs.
All kinds of Easter eggs – some large, some
small, and some coated in nothing but sugar
candy, while others are covered in bright foil
containing all manner of surprises. But, has
anyone thought to explain this phenomenon to
the Easter Hens, and apologised for why they
don’t feature in the Easter celebrations?
Maybe it’s the very idea that a hen could produce
a chocolate egg that is just too much for some
minds….
It gets weirder too: apparently now there’s an Easter Squirrel, but at least it has nuts!
Anyway, the news is that Belize has eight COVD-19 patients now, and one death so far. There
appear to be two clusters – one in Cayo District, and one in Corozal District. Coincidentally both
are border districts, so that would suggest people crossing the border are bringing the infection
with them, but there’s a dispute about this because, officially, both borders are closed, and one of
the patients is an American. The Government’s Joint COVID-19 Emergency Response team has
been meeting everyday to plan and plot the country’s response to the outbreak, but, in all
honesty, I’m finding it challenging to sit and listen to either PM Barrow or Opposition Leader
Briceno talk about this matter. Barrow has an annoying habit of speaking like he’s reading each
word for the first time, as a consequence it takes him 30 minutes to read 100 words, while
Briceno’s high-pitch nasal tone just aggravates me, and neither has anything positive or heart-
warming to share.
Gilbert and me basically do basically nothing all day. I sit drinking coffee; he sits waiting for the
TV to come on. I watch the empty streets; he watches empty screen.
Lunch is a can of mini ravioli, baked beans and tinned vegetables. All mixed and massacred in
the microwave. Nice.
The day drags on and on. I actually hate days off like this. I need to be doing something and
usually that would be planning rugby events, exchanging opinions and news via social media, or
reading. Today, I just feel useless, like there’s no point in doing anything because nothing seems
to be possible. Everything is futile because we don’t know what’s going to happen with this
damned virus.
There’s dust again on the furniture. This annoys me, so I get a cloth and start dusting everything
down. The dust comes off the road outside, because it’s not hard surfaced, and though the
balcony door / slash make-belief French window. French windows are usually comprised of two
floor to ceiling glass doors and they look stunning… in French buildings or others designed to
