Day Nine

th
Awoke around 5am, don’t know why.
Went back to sleep, Eventually got up just before 7am, shaved, showered and already knew what
the day generally had in store – more laundry. Well, better to do small amounts at regular
intervals, than struggle with a week’s load again.
Put the coffee on, using fresh beans purchased
yesterday. I also bought some chocolate chip cookies
and some more delightful tinned food, including some
more Chowder and a bacon and sausage concoction,
chiefly because it also contained vegetables – I need
vegetables. As my mother always used to say “eating
greens helps keep your skin on” or something to that
effect. Anyways, I like vegetables…. and fruits,
chocolate and all the various forms that chocolate
takes. Except chocolate bunnies. Eating them just
doesn’t sound right, especially if they ARE the ones
laying Easter eggs.
Was just about to turn on my computer and start another few pages of my novel, when my name
was called from outside. Ran to the balcony to see who was calling me, to find Frank and Sue
outside in their Ford Ranger. I yelled back “hold on” while I grabbed a t shirt and went down to
the street to find what they wanted.
Frank was scribbling something, but that wasn’t anything for me. Sue, on the other hand, was
thrusting a piece of paper out her passenger window and telling me that my Boss had sent some
money, via Money Gram, for his Mom, and wanted me to go collect it. Now, I had known for a
while that my Bosses half-brother had been trying to contact me to so he could send some money
to his mom, but me not having access to email or a phone made that impossible. I wasn’t aware
that my Boss was also trying to get some money to his mom as well, although I had previously
picked up money so pay some of his bills here in Belize, using Western Union.
I took the paper from Sue, on which was scribbled the Money Gram collection code, and
remembered that a Money Gram franchise had recently opened up inside the big TWIN
SUPERMARKET on Thomas Street, so I didn’t have far to go. Sue and Frank drove off and I
standing there wondering, why yet again, I was essentially doing something for their family that
had absolutely nothing what so ever to do with me, I mean, why aren’t these siblings or half-
