Intraocular Pressure Measurement:
Part of the eye examination process your doctor will check for
your intraocular pressure. This aids the doctor in determining if
whether any sign of glaucoma exists. Your doctor may use a tonopen
or noncontact tonometer to screen your eyes. The best method is the
slit lamp applanation tonometer.
Iris Pupil Examination:
The doctor can check to see if there are any irregularities with the
pupil. Your doctor will look for any constrictions, the size of the
pupil, or if it responds correctly to light. This can help detect any
optic nerve issues.

Dilation:
In an eye exam it is necessary for the doctor to know any problems
that may be affecting your vision. The doctor applies eye drops in
order to enlarge your pupil. This dilation gives the doctor a much
wider view of the inside of your eyes. With this, the doctor is able to
see the retina, any blood vessels, or optic nerves.
The eye is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be
directly seen. This helps detect hypertension, diabetes and various
