Pi in eye
Diffractive lenses have apodization or rings that work to bring light
from different distances to the same point. Accommodative lenses
move to mimic the natural lens.
Modulating the response of the eye
During surgery, cool fluid is passed through the eye to minimize its
response to the trauma. After surgery using steroidal and non-
steroidal drops as necessary further calms the eye.
Before the day of the Prelex Surgery
Try to be calm. Don’t keep any questions for the last minute on
the operating table. Keep all your papers and directions together.
Confirm your ride. Start the recommended eye drops. Usually these
drops are antibiotic drops. Doctors may start them 1-3 days before
the surgery.
Also, some doctors may start inflammatory drops, especially if you
have a tendency for inflammation. Flomax pills may have to be
stopped. Most surgeons are fine with continuing with blood thinners
but it is best to check with the eye doctor. Do continue taking all
other medications unless instructed otherwise.
On the day of surgery
Avoid eating & drinking for 6 hours before the surgery. Try to be
positive. Mental mood is an important factor. Be sure to wear a
comfortable outfit. Some doctors may ask you to change into a
surgical gown, while others ask you to put one over your clothes.
Avoid any clothes that are uncomfortable or itchy and especially ones
with sharp hooks. Clothes with buttons may be fine. Jewelry may be
worn. If choosing anesthesia, please inform the doctor regarding
dentures & any loose teeth.
1. Don’t forget to instill the eye drops before surgery.
2. In fact it is best to take all your eye drops and medications
in case there is a doubt or question.
3. At the surgery center inform the reason you are there, and
which eye you are having surgery on.
4. Sometimes surgeons may be running behind schedule.
