7. Preservative free lidocaine inside the eye but prevents
pain. It may sting but it numbs the inside of the eye. It
also helps keep the pupil dilated.
8. Jelly to keep eye from collapsing. These are cohesive or
dispersive type.
9. Open the capsule in a continuous curvilinear pattern so as
to reach the lens fibers
10. Separate the lens from the capsule using water
11. Remove lens pieces and fibers
12. Polish the bag, insert more jelly
13. Insert new artificial lens implant. The folded lens gradually
unfolds like a flower inside the eye

14. Remove any remaining jelly
15. Water edges of wound
16. Check patency of wound. Safety stitch if necessary
After the surgery:
1. Do not rub the eye.
2. Avoid lifting heavy weights. Do not do strenuous exercise.
3. Avoid visiting hospitals or urgent care centers.
4. Instill drops as instructed.
