Blazing Trails for Be er Community Health, Family Wellness
On February 24, 2018, the City of Titusville and Brevard County will celebrate the opening of the Florida East Coast Regional Rail Trail by hos ng a Community Cycle Fun Day event, where families and local celebrity riders will put the pedal to the metal across miles of trail.
In today’s ac ve world, mul use trails are being integrated into transporta on planning as they provide a safe corridor for bicyclists and pedestrians and encourage local economic development, recrea onal opportuni es and healthier lifestyles.
Brevard’s newly installed sec on of the Florida East Central Regional Rail Trail, which stretches from Canaveral Avenue in Titusville to the Volusia County line, is a paved 12-foot wide mul -use trail that will connect
with 52 miles of rail trail in Volusia County. This regional trail is also part of the larger Coast to Coast Trail, which spans from St. Petersburg to Titusville, the St. Johns River to Sea Loop which will connect ve coun es, and the East Coast Greenway,
which runs from Maine to Florida. Ul mately, this sec on serves as an essen al piece of mul ple converging trails and will add to the state’s interconnec vity of safe pedestrian and bicycle features.
On a local level, the trail will also serve as a safe corridor for student bicyclists and pedestrians to use when traveling to and from Mims Elementary School, every day. It may also be used as a space for north area school fundraising ac vi es such as 5k walks/fun runs and cycling events.
Above all, mul -use trails provide families with the opportunity for recrea on, increased mobility and healthy ac ve leisure op ons. This new regional trail provides a safe 12.8 mile mul -use trail and 5.4 miles of equestrian trail for Brevard families to enjoy together.

Don’t have a bike? The Titusville Chamber of Commerce has partnered with Coast to Coast Bicycle Company to allow par cipants to rent a bike for only $15. All rides will culminate with a planned a er party at Sand Point Park, where families can enjoy food, music and a ßbeau ful riverfront view.
