           1. Estimation of Moisture



          SCOPE
          To estimate the moisture in feed and feed stuffs by Hot
          Air Oven method.

          PRINCIPLE
          If sample of feed were heated at temperature higher
          than  the  boiling  point  of  water,  water  present  as
          moisture would be evaporated  out leaving behind dry
          matter.  This  moisture  content  is  expressed  as

          percentage basis of the fresh feed or feed stuffs.
          Apparatus
          FAnalytical  Balance,1  mg  /0.1  mg  accuracy

          FPetri dish (picture-2)
          FHot Air Oven pre calibrated (picture-3)
          FDesiccators (picture-4)

          FMetal tongs (picture-5)

                                                                PROCEDURE
                                                                FTake cleaned and dried Petri dish and tare empty
                                                                   dish with cap. Weigh accurately about3 gm to 4 gm
                                                                   of  ground  sample  in  Petri  dish.  This  is  sample
                                                                   weight. (Picture-7)

                                                                FThen again tare the Petri dish with sample and take
                                                                   out  from  the  weighing  pan.  See  the  display  of
                                                                   weighing  balance  and  this  is  the  initial  weight.
