Chain sinnets, of which there are quite a few, have in common
one or more strands that are formed into loops successively
tucked into each other. A chain sinnet could be used to shorten
a cord, as lanyard knots sometimes are, but this simple chain
sinnet also creates the decorative gold braid seen on military
uniform caps and shoulders. It is sometimes known as the
trumpet cord, since it decorates the gold cord often dangling
from military trumpets (or, more accurately, military bugles). It
may also be called the monkey chain or the monkey braid.
