Chief Editor
very Happy New Year 2017 to all the staff and students of UiTM Sarawak. I would like to thank
my Editorial Board for their hard work and commitment in ensuring the continual successful
A publication of INFOKAMPUS. To the lecturers and staff who have been contributing articles
for INFOKAMPUS, thank you and I hope that you will continue to send in articles on your activities
and achievements.
Last year, UiTM Sarawak celebrated the 60 anniversary of UiTM which has been a successful year
th
for us as we saw the appointment of a Sarawakian, Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Haji Safri
Awang Zaidell as the Pro Chancellor of UITM at Istiadat Konvokesyen UiTM Ke-85 at Dewan Agong
Tuanku Canselor, UiTM Shah Alam. This was indeed a great achievement which made our campus
proud. In addition, our Rector, Professor Dato Dr. Jamil Hamali, was awarded Anugerah Ma’al Hijrah,
Pegawai Awam Contoh by His Excellency of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, on
2 October 2016. I wish to convey my heartiest congratulations to both Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri
Dato’ Sri Haji Safri Awang Zaidell and Professor Dato Dr. Jamil Hamali for their achievements.
As public universities are experiencing budget cuts in 2017, we too face the same problem. Therefore,
as a family, we in UiTM Sarawak, have to cooperate and work together to reduce our campus
expenditure. We need to conserve energy and turn off any electrical appliances such as the air
conditioners and computers that are not in use. At the same time, we can store our data digitally
instead of printing to eliminate the need to cut down too many trees. This not only saves cost but in
doing so, we also save our environment. Teamwork is very much practised in UiTM Sarawak and it is
through our cooperation that we are able to reach this far. Together we will soar to reach greater
heights of achievement. I am sure that the budget cuts will not dampen our spirit to continue to work
hard for the betterment of the campus which we all love.
As the Internet is becoming a useful teaching and learning tool, we as lecturers can make full use of
it. Instead of printing chunks and chunks of notes for our students, we can utilize the facilities that
are available online which enable our students to access notes digitally. Online learning has made
learning so much easier and fun and it is up to our ingenuity to come up with creative ideas that
will capture the interest of our students. Thus, in this 21 century, despite the obstacles that we face
st
in terms of budget limitations, we can always find ways and means to reach out to our students who
are Internet savvy and can learn fast with the click of a mouse. Times have changed and we must keep
abreast with the technological advances in order to meet the needs of our students.
Despite the budget cuts for our university, let us continue to persevere and strive for a conducive
working and learning environment. Together we will soar upwards to reach the pinnacle of success.
