The Commercial Function
The major role of the commercial function is to ensure the availability of quality
equipment, machinery, materials and contractor manpower on timely basis at economical
rates to support the manufacturing plants, projects and other support services for their
smooth and efficient operations.
The commercial department has following three major activities -
a. Contracts & Purchase
b. Materials
c. Logistics
Contracts & Purchase
A team of competent professionals are handling the contracts & procurement of goods
and services for IPL, IFL, OIPL and other support facilities. Procurement team handles
more than 45,000 items including process chemicals, catalysts, equipment, spares,
packaging materials and consumables.
Apart from procurement of materials, the team is involved in sourcing different technical
services for plant operations, maintenance and other support services such as IT,
Logistics, Administration, Safety, Health, Environment and others.
Material Management (MMD)
A dedicated team handles material management functions covering receipt of material,
inspection through QAQC & other user departments, proper storage & preservation and
issuance to users. The team also manages the inventories, sales of waste and scrap
materials.
Over 70,000 different nature of materials are being handled in MMD for all plants &
support services.
Logistics
A full-fledged Logistics team handles both inbound and outbound logistics for both IPL &
IFL. As part of Inbound logistics, the team is responsible for movement of material from
vendor’s place, tracking of shipment, clearance of material at port and delivery of
materials to the site.
As part of Outbound logistics, the team executes polymer & fertilizer sales orders and
arranges dispatch & delivery of goods to domestic as well as overseas customers. The
team also manages the CHAs / CFAs for the clearance and distribution.
Annual Volumes handled per year is more than 1.5 million tons (1.3 million tons of
Fertilizer and 0.3 million tons of Polymer).
