FamilyVilaisaPermanentSupportiveHousingprogram whichhouses26familiesina2or3bedroom fulyfurnished apartmentandislocatedinFresnonearCaliforniaStateUniversity,Fresno. eprogram isfundedbytheU.S. DepartmentofHousingandUrbanDevelopmentandtheCountyofFresno.Itisdesignedtopermanentlyhousehomeles familieswithatleastoneadultexperiencingadisablingconditionandhomelesnes.FamilyVilaoffersCaseManagement,
LifeSkilsGroups,ParentingWorkshops,Employment/EducationalResources,servicelinkages,onsiteasistancewith
SecurityIncomeapplications,nocostBirthCerti􏰁cates/CAstateID’s,crisisintervention,con􏰀ictresolution, transportation,andlinkagesandcoordinationwithInHomeSupportiveServicesandchildcare. egoaloftheprogram is
toprovideasafeandstablehomeenvironmentandisdesignedtohelpfosterstability,independenceandtokepfamilies from returningtohomelesnes.FamilyVilaoperatestheprogram utilizingtheHousingFirstModel,aNationalbest practicethatfocusesonmetingpeoplewheretheyare,providinghousing,andwrappingservicesaroundthem.
THISYEAR:
FamilyVilahasservedatotalof32families(48adultsand82children)from 7/1/2019to6/30/2020andprovided 9,058nightsofshelter.Ofthetotal130clientsserved,33clientslefttheprogram and97stayedintheprogram. Amongthe33clientswholeft,al33wenttopermanenthousingdestinations.
ADJUSTING TO COVID-19:
DuringtheCOVID-19pandemicstaffhelpedeasetheboredom ofthechildrenandtheirparentsbyproviding weklyspecializedactivity/coloringpacketsforthem toworkonasafamily. eprogram purchasedboardgames, puzlesandDVD moviesthatwereavailableforcheckoutonadailybasis. eresidentskickedtheCOVID-19
bluesbycreatinggardensthatconsistedof􏰀owers,vegetables,fruitsorherbsdependingonthefamily.Notonlydid thishelptobeautifythecommunity,ithelpedeasetheanxietyandstresorsoftheadultsandchildrenduringthe pandemic,madeposibledonationsfrom theownersofthecomplex,TurningPointFamilyVilaandtheresidents.
