THINK CAREFULLY ABOUT
Presence and Impact
How do you look, dress, speak and react? Consider what sort of impression you
should aim to make on a prospective employer
Qualifications
What relevant qualifications do you possess? What projects have you
completed? What leadership skills do you have?
Experience
Have you had work experience or a part time job? What did you gain from it?
What were you especially good at? What did you learn about yourself?
Aptitudes
What are your special strengths and weaknesses? Do you have any specific
abilities? For instance, are you good at communicating with other people or are
you numerate or good at practical things?
Interest and Motivation
To succeed you need both the ability to do the job and the commitment.
Identify those areas where you have both interest and ability. Ask yourself how
you invest your time, what activities have given you the most satisfaction and
importantly what are your ambitions?
Values and Attitudes
What benefits can you bring to a prospective employer? What do you want
from a job?
Personality
Perhaps the most difficult part of the appraisal. Ask a parent or friend to help
you by commenting upon your personality and the type of person you are.
The self appraisal process will enable you to identify personal strengths and
weaknesses to allow you to concentrate on your strengths to your advantage
Doing so will help to build up your confidence for the remainder of the process
