Abstract
Smart city involves smart governance, smart technology, smart mobility, smart planning and smart
building. Smart mobility is not just about designing for good connectivity and linkages, but also includes ease
of movement, equity, accessibility and security for pedestrians. Pedestrian-oriented transportation has
recently emerged as an important issue to supplement transportation modes as a method to reduce traffic
accidents and environmental pollution. This study aims to develop a pedestrian environment evaluation
method called Pedestrian Environment Quality Score (PEQS). PEQS measures main pedestrian environment
elements based on quantitative scoring system. Main pedestrian environment elements are considered in
PEQS including intersection safety, street design, land use, perceived safety. Then, the developed method is
applied to evaluate the pedestrian environment of centre business area in Thu Dau Mot City (Vietnam).
