SEVEN
               Braid with Parallel Core

               Parallel fibers wrapped in a gauze-like material form the core of this braid.

               When low stretch and high strength are critical, such as in a halyard, this rope is
               a good choice; if flexibility is important, double-braid is better.
               EYE SPLICE

                  The basic directions for this splice provide a soft eye that conforms easily to
                    small blocks. A variation, as noted in the following text, produces a hard,
                  unyielding eye that is excellent for situations calling for a larger loop. These
                 directions are for Sta-Set X, manufactured by New England Ropes, Inc., of Fall
                  River, Massachusetts, the major distributor of this rope to the marine market;
                other braid with parallel core requires a different splice. A special splicing tool,
                  the Uni-Fid (see page 13), is necessary to complete this splice because of the
                 rope’s parallel-strand core. Chandleries that stock this rope usually sell the fid

                                                           also.
