Half hitch

The half hitch is a very simple but insecure hitch. It can be used temporarily for light loads, but

should never be relied on for heavy or safety loads.

Begin by passing the rope around the spar or post to which you are hitching it (1). Then pass the
working end around the loaded end, and feed it between the post and the loop to form the hitch
(2). Pull the loaded end to tighten the knot (3).
