Slippery half hitch
When a very fast, quick-release hitch is needed, a slippery half hitch is often used. Although it is
not a strong knot, it is easy to tie and untie, making it a favorite for quick jobs around the house
and store.
First run the working end through or around the object (1). Then bring the working end behind
the standing part (2) and pull a bight through the loop from the front (3). Pull on the bight and the
standing end to tighten the knot (4). A quick pull on the free end of the bight will release it.
