Round turn and two half hitches
This knot offers an effective way to attach to a post or spar a line that will be made taut and does
not need to be adjusted. Security and strength are provided by adding the round turns: these
take most of the weight of the load, while the hitches keep it in place.
Start by wrapping the rope around the post or spar for two complete turns (1). Pass the working
end over and around the standing part, then feed it between the post and the standing part (2).
Bring the working end away from the post and make another wrap around the standing part, again
feeding the working end between the previous wrap and the standing part (3). Pull on the working
end and cinch the knot up to the post to tighten (4).
