Ax hitch







  Hoisting any sort of heavy implement aloft, or securing it for someone else, requires a knot that

  will not drop its load on those standing underneath. This hitch also prevents long-handled tools
  from swinging wildly around.


  Tie a simple loop in the end of the line (see section 2) and slip it over the handle of the ax (1). Bring
  the standing part around beneath the axhead and, tying in the bight, add a couple of half hitches

  (see page 130) at intervals along the handle (2, 3). Hoist the ax with the head downward.
