Single hook hitch







  An adaptation of the pile hitch (see page 171), this secure hook hitch does not (unlike the single

  Blackwall hitch) fall apart when relieved of its load. It was first suggested by the respected
  American knotting author Clifford Warren Ashley in 1944.


  Make a bight in the end of the rope and take it through the mouth of the hook (1). Wrap it around
  the hook’s back and loop it over its bill (2). Take care to locate the short end nearest the bill of the

  hook, as the knot is more reliable that way.
