Double sheet bend
When a sheet bend (see page 25) cannot cope with two lines of somewhat dissimilar thickness or
stiffness, this reinforced version may do the trick.
Make a bight in the larger line, with the ends facing to the left. Insert the working end of the
smaller line up through the bight from the bottom, then pass it around the back (1) and over the
bight, but beneath the small line (2). Ensure that both short ends are on the same side of the knot,
then tuck the working end around a second time and beneath the standing part (3). Pull on both
ends to tighten the knot (4).
