Adjustable bend
This slide-and-grip knot was devised by climbing guide Robert Chisnall of Ontario, Canada, in
1982. It will join two ropes, cords, or lengths of webbing (tape), and in both ends of the same
stuff can create a sling or strop. Each one of the twin knots in the bend may be shifted by hand in
either direction.
Hold the two ropes, cords, or webbing together and parallel, with the ends facing in opposite
directions. Wrap one end twice around the adjacent standing part (1) and then tuck the end
around both bits of rope and beneath the second turn (2). Reverse the half-completed knot end-
for-end, then repeat the process with the other working end (3). Tighten both knots before use (4).
