Vice versa
Innovative British knot tier Harry Asher devised this bend to join slimy or slippery lengths of
rope or cord that are of similar diameter and construction. It will even cling to shock elastics
(bungee cord), which shed many otherwise trustworthy knots. The vice versa is a comparative
newcomer to the knotting scene, having first been published in 1989.
Lay the two lines to be joined parallel and close together. Wrap one end around the opposing
standing part (1), then repeat the process with other end (2, 3), and cross the ends (4). Tuck each
end through the end loop beside its own standing part (5). Work the knot snug by pulling a bit at a
time on each working end and standing part in turn (6).
