The artist Youngho Chuu was born in the countryside, so his childhood hometown
scenery was full of houses set close to one another with colorful images, different sto-
ries and dynamic emotions. One day it flashed on him that houses knowing his child-
hood memories, stories and emotions disappeared with urban development, social
change, etc. Inspirations came from such as this idea that house had more meaning
than simply residential space to live in.
He would like to express his personal thoughts on the houses through photography
of collage techniques with fitting together the piece of scales/puzzles, not through
photography of selected-and-completed in ONE frame. He searched-and-shot a lot of
types houses, and printed out hundreds of pieces with tiny size and cut with scissors
into the variety shape of houses. With repetitive, hard and long-term handwork, he
stuck produced numerous pieces on the canvas. In pure collage hand in hand, he mas-
terfully reconstructed houses as a set of variation of human life. -Artist statement
