constructible, integrated, and functional
(but were afraid to ask) solution for the Owner’s schedule and
budget requirements.

What is the goal of Design-Build,
and why would Rosendin want to
increase our Design-Build portfolio?
The goal of Design-Build is simple: to provide the best
solution for an Owner by developing a project where
both technical and practical expertise converge.
Simply put, when both the design and installation
have the same goals and work together, the Owner
gets the best solution in terms of cost, schedule,
and operation. The Design-Build delivery method
incorporates and encourages all of Rosendin's Core
Values.

demonstrate, through design and construction, a

Increasing Rosendin's Design-Build volume has several
benefits. When we design and build our projects, there
is an increase of predictability that results in higher
productivity, less waste, and reduced rework. This
means we can hold margins and be more efficient
with manpower. It also allows our teams to be more
innovative as we collaborate to streamline processes
and integrate the design with the field workflow.
What is Engineering doing to
achieve this goal?
Engineering is working to integrate with our field
operations, as well as other support departments,
to reduce and eliminate overlap of effort or gaps in
scope. We are creating tools to increase transparency
on the design side by rolling out our Engineering
SharePoint Site, available to all Rosendin employees.
Additionally, Engineering has been collaborating with
the BIM department to align design modeling to the
BIM standards, and we are training our Designers to
work directly in the model for layout and BIM interface.
While this effort does not eliminate BIM modeling and
detailing, it allows a seamless interface between the
design model and BIM, reducing rework. This effort
alone will reduce the total cost of Design and BIM on
every Design-Build project moving forward.
Engineering is also working toward the goal of
increased Design-Build effectiveness by aligning
how the department is organized. The Engineering
Department organization has regional leads in
the West, the Midwest, and the East. The Regional
Engineering Directors are aligned to the Regional
Operations Managers and are tasked to be involved
with pursuits and project delivery at a regional level.
We also have local Engineering Directors in our major
offices to provide further support and interface. With
the new corporate structure at Rosendin, Engineering
has adjusted our organization to best support the
Eastern and Western Regions.
What benefits can Engineering offer
Operations in achieving project
success?
Engineering supports Operations in many ways.
The Engineering Departments holds Professional
Engineering (P.E.) licenses in 43 states and understands
the code as well as regional jurisdiction requirements
in these states. The team is also familiar with the utilities
in these states and can provide support as we pursue
and build projects across the country.
Engineering has the expertise to support Design-Build
and other project delivery types. Industry experts are
available for Mission Critical, Healthcare, Institutional,
High-Tech, Entertainment, Commercial, Renewables,
Residential, and Hospitality market sectors who can
provide support and technical input as we pursue
and construct these projects. The Engineering team
also holds several accreditations and certifications,
including Certified Energy Managers, LEED Accredited
Professionals (LEED AP), Commissioning Agents,
Accredited Tier Designers, and Analytics Specialists
with decades of experience.
With 91 designers and engineers, Engineering can
support nearly any size project in any region. Our
model is to have a local engineering team head up
the effort and work with the local operations team
while being supported by teams located in other
areas. Engineering's standards are universal across the
company and accessible on Rosendin's SharePoint
site, which ensures consistency, regardless of where
the work is produced.
